You should be able to run it from the application folder. The only reasons I can think of why it wouldn't work are; 1. You were not an admin of the Mac (however unlikely as you should't of been able to drag something to the applications folder. The version of Forticlient is incompatible with the version of MAC OSX you have.

Depending on your version of Mac OSX You may need to approve the app the first time it runs in Systems Preferences, Security and Privacy, at the bottom of the General tab it will say if it is being blocked. The app is named Forticlientupdate.app, are you sure it's not for updating a version of the client that's already installed as it has update and not installer in it's name.. Ill open a ticket with fortinet, (wont be holding out for an answer:) ) on the Macbook air, running MacOs x, Nothing seems to be blocked, Forticlient doesn't appear to be installed already either.
(unfortunately the user is going to be based in India, we are in Ireland, so it probably wont get installed today, but it installed Filezilla and Teamviewer with out any hassle,) From the website it says it supports 'mac os x snowleopard 10.6 or higher' From what i can see, this macbook air is on 10.7.5.
